What a Kick

Yesterday I volunteered at the girls' school and was witness to one of the kindness acts I've seen in a long time.  For privacy's sake I'll keep the details off the world wide web (but ask me some time in person-if you want more of the story).  I will say it involved a student and the school Principle in an activity I'd never seen done at school before.  It was amazing and it brought tears to my eyes to see the compassion and dedication this Public School Principle had to one of her students.

We live in a city where Christianity doesn't stop in the local churches.  I often thank God that my girls are able to get a public school education with Christian teachers.

Now for the kick.  After school we came home and got the mail.  In it contained: No Christmas cards -boo hiss, a bill for our homeowner's association dues, and a letter from the Oregon Department of Revenue.  Oooh, our Kicker check, or so I thought. As it turns out we were some of the "unfortunate ones" who checked the little box that said, "donate Kicker to Public Schools." Back when we were filling out our tax return we figured the Kicker would only be at the most a couple hundred dollars.  Turns out the letter yesterday informed us that we paid over a $1000 to Oregon Schools.  Hmmm.... we weren't exepecting to be that generous.  And now that we know we "gave up" over a $1000 at Christmastime, I have to be honest and say the first thought wasn't, "oh great, we love being generous."

God quickly reminded me about what I had witnessed at school earlier in the day.  Yes, Christ is working in Public Schools. Ok, now I'm starting to get it.  Life is a kick, isn't it?
